Digital Philanthropy Panel

On 5/6, we hosted an event at General Assembly with the following organizations and professionals:

Dollar a Day@cassmarketos from @dollaraday

92Y@radiofreeasha from @92Y

Awesome Foundation NYC@jcn from @awesomenyc

Do Something@naomi_nyc from @dosomething

Our topic was the following: our increasingly digital world is poised to revolutionize philanthropy — shifting the idea of “giving” from top-dollar-donations-only to more decentralized efforts of community-based charity. This change can be seen in new platforms that enable everyday acts of giving. The aim of “Digital Philanthropy” will be to explore this emerging landscape. What are its obstacles and opportunities? What does it mean for the charitable world, as a whole? And, most importantly, what can you do to help?

Here’s a recap of what everyone had to say that evening:

Julia Levy, Founder, has a decade of development experience, including working for a philanthropist, a small nonprofit and now a large nonprofit. She has raised significant dollars for numerous causes, from education to religion and from donors of all ages. Julia holds a Certificate in Fundraising from NYU’s Heyman Center for Philanthropy and an undergraduate degree from Cornell University. Julia has taught fundraising workshops, most recently at Brooklyn Brainery and coached development professionals.
