What was the first gift you ever gave?: I honestly don’t recall, but it was probably to the Asian American Writers’ Workshop.
What is your charity of choice?: Upwardly Global, which helps skilled immigrants rebuild their livelihoods and careers in the United States.
Who inspires you to give?: I have always admired strong Asian American women in philanthropy such as Liz OuYang, advocate who ran The Fund for New Citizens, BJ Sung, a corporate philanthropy leader in my church community, and members of the Asian Women Giving Circle supporting women-led Asian American organizations in NYC.
What motivates you to give?: Giving allows me to be part of the change-making process and have a small but critical impact on people’s lives and causes I believe in, such as human rights, economic empowerment and poverty alleviation. And it’s great to support my friends’ work and stay involved in the nonprofit sector, which I am passionate about. Check out the Women’s Refugee Commission which really got me started!
What advice do you have for others to consider giving?: Be creative, practice generosity and have fun!
