Giving back is how I created The Coaching Fellowship. What started as my personal goal to give back and coach a handful of young women leaders in the impact space, is now a tri-annual program which has reached 250+ women in 41 countries. I have enabled and created a network of 70 coaches, who just like me donate hours of their time to empower some of the brightest minds and souls of our generation.

What was the first philanthropic gift you ever gave?

This is a very clear memory for me. I grew up in the UK, and when I was about 10 years old, I found a 5 pound note on the street whilst walking home from school. I felt I couldn’t put the money in my pocket, and asked around the neighborhood to see if anyone had lost the note. It seemed like a fortune to me at the time, and at 30+ years ago – I think it was! The money remained on my pin-board for much longer than 6 months, and I finally I decided I wanted to give the money to something I cared about. I chose the World Wildlife Fund. It gave me so much pride to donate to a cause I truly believed in and felt I was a part in helping to make a change. I can still recall, the letter I received back from WWF and the profound impact it had on me to this day.

Who inspires you to give?

So many people. I feel fortunate to witness so many generous acts and count so many generous people in my life. From world changing impact entrepreneurs dedicated to using their talents and expertise to create lasting change, rather than profit, to incredible young people helping the homeless, to fundraiser to protect web-rights, to a simple much needed hug. If one chooses to look, there are daily reminders to give from the smallest of gestures.

What motivates you to give?

I truly feel that giving is a truly human trait. We are here to give and to share, and help one another. Of course, it feels good to give! And I certainly feel good when I do – that’s part of it! But, it’s also hard for me to explain my own drive to give, it’s feels innate, bigger than me. I think we’re hardwired for giving!

The biggest problems of our time also motivate me. I want to see a chunk of those challenges like ending global poverty, access to clean drinking water for all, destruction of our oceans and forests go away in our lifetime. Call me an optimist, but I think there are more people than ever who want to give and create lasting change.

Can you share an example of how you give back?

Giving back is how I created The Coaching Fellowship. What started as my personal goal to give back and coach a handful of young women leaders in the impact space, is now a tri-annual program which has reached 250+ women in 41 countries. What is your philanthropy of choice and why?

I have to admit that I like to ‘do’ things and make things happen, so when I give, my default is volunteering my time. I rarely give financially on an ongoing basis. The one monthly direct donation is to a local horse sanctuary. Horses have been my passion since I was a little girl, and I know how hard it is for equine rescue centre to keep going.
